Blahtech BV | Better Volume for NinjaTrader 8

Blahtech Better Volume is an enhanced volume histogram. Each bar's volume, range and volume density are compared against the recent bars, then the bar is classified into a state - Normal, Low Volume, High Churn or one of the Climax states - and coloured accordingly. Selectable filters, timeframe-aware averaging and configurable alerts help highlight the bars that matter.

Volume states

Each bar is compared against the recent bars set by Periods and Look Back. Its volume, range and volume density (volume per point) decide the state, and the matching colour is applied.

Normal - nothing unusual about the bar
Low Volume - the lowest volume across the look-back window
High Churn - high volume density: significant volume with limited price movement
Climax Up - high volume times range on a bar with bullish direction
Climax Dn - high volume times range on a bar with bearish direction
Climax Neutral - a climax bar with no clear up or down direction
Climax Churn - the highest volume and the highest density: heavy volume with restricted movement

The Filters tab decides which states are highlighted - each of the Low Volume, High Churn and Climax filters can show its state on every qualifying bar or only when the bar's volume sits the right side of the average. The Periods Map and Look Back Map hold a per-timeframe value, so the averaging period and look-back window adjust automatically as you switch timeframe.

Filters

Periods	Averaging period for the volume baseline (0 = use the Periods Map)
Look Back	Look-back window for climax / churn detection (0 = use the Look Back Map)
Filter - Low Volume	Show all Low Volume bars, or only when volume is below the average
Filter - High Churn	Show all High Churn bars, or only when volume is above the average
Filter - Climax	Show all Climax bars, or only when volume is above the average
Climax Direction - Detection Mode	Bull/bear body, close in top/bottom half, or both combined
Climax Direction - Neutral Body Percent	Body size below which a bar is treated as neutral
Climax Direction - Neutral Close Percent	Width of the neutral band around the bar mid-point

Colours

Colour Scheme	Highlight paints each state its own colour; Mono paints every bar the single Mono Colour
Mono Colour	Single colour used for every bar when the Colour Scheme is Mono
Colour - Normal / Low Volume / High Churn	Colours for the non-climax states
Colour - Climax Neutral / Up / Dn / Churn	Colours for the climax states
Colour - Average Volume	Colour for the average volume line

Alerts

Sound / Email / Notification	Alert delivery channels
Triggers per state	Fire an alert on a change to Normal or Low Volume (default off); High Churn and all Climax states (default on)
Trigger	Check for alert triggers at Bar Close or in Real Time
Startup Delay Seconds	Wait a number of seconds before testing for alerts on startup
Sound Wav File	Change alert sound
Message / Email Subject / Body	User customisable alert message templates

Other Parameters

Instance Id	Unique instance Id - only modify for multiple instances per chart
Max Bars	Maximum number of bars kept in the calculation history (0 = all available)
Display Name	Text shown as the indicator title, overriding the default tab label
Colour Mode	Auto follows the global Settings colour mode, then the chart background; or force Light / Dark
Periods Map / Look Back Map	Per-timeframe values used when Periods or Look Back is 0
Histogram Bar Width	Fixed pixel width for the volume bars (0 = match the chart bar width)
Average Line Thickness	Thickness of the average volume line
First Valid Bar	Number of bars to count before calculating and highlighting
Backtest Expire Time (mins)	Minutes to wait before cancelling backtest mode (0 = no limit)
